Book Review-Attached by Rachel Heller and Amir Levine

Ever wonder what someone’s deal is when they do not get back to a text message or phone call, even if they act interested on a date? Similar to that kind of partner that pushes you away as you two start becoming closer? I recently read an amazing book, Attached, by Rachel Heller and Amir Levine. This has changed the way I look at people and personal relationships in many ways. Scientific research from this book has proven many of the wonders we may have about what makes someone who they are in a relationship.

This book is about the different attachment styles that people will have in romantic relationships. There are three types of attachment styles a person will have: secure, anxious, and avoidant. A secure person is someone who is more easily forgiving and is more capable of loving someone with their stable nature. One with anxious attachment tends to find themselves always worrying if their partner will love them back. They have a tendency to engage in protest behaviors and may be considered more ‘clingy’ to someone of an avoidant attachment style. One who has an avoidant attachment style have a harder time commiting to a relationship. Avoidants have the tendency to become easily bored in relationships and will find techniques to push their partner away.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to improve their existing relationships and know what to look for in a romantic partner. Reading the book, Attached, helped me identify red flags when on a first date with someone. I feel this is a subject they should have taught us in school, because it is important for all of us to identify early on how a person will fill our intimate needs. We should also know how to avoid the anxious-avoidant trap, as two people with insecure attachment styles tend to have a gravitational pull towards each other. This book teaches why we fall into that trap and how to avoid it. This is one of the most important books I have ever read in my life! I feel everyone would benefit from reading this!
